MORNING!!! That point felt bigger than one point.

Spurs left Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw after Dominic Solanke headed in Sandro Tonali’s cross in the 92nd minute. Bryan Mbeumo had put Manchester United ahead on 73 minutes, before Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off five minutes later following his clash with Luke Shaw.

The performance

This was Tottenham’s strongest display of the league season. Spurs pushed United back, created the clearer chances and should have been ahead before the match turned against them. Solanke was denied early, Mohammed Kudus fired wide after a sharp move down the left, and Conor Gallagher was stopped as he prepared to shoot.

The finishing still needs work. Opta recorded 1.56 expected goals and four big chances for Spurs, against United’s 0.77 xG and one big chance. That does not make the draw a victory, but it supports what the game showed: Tottenham were not hanging on for most of the evening. They were the side creating the better openings.

The difficult bit

Mbeumo punished Spurs when Matheus Cunha found him in the area. Bentancur’s reaction soon afterwards was unnecessary and could have finished the contest. Down to ten men and a goal behind at Old Trafford, this team had every excuse to fold.

They did not. Antonín Kinsky kept out Mbeumo’s late effort, Tonali kept looking forward, and Solanke fought through Lisandro Martínez to glance the equaliser into the far corner. First league goal away from home this season. First time Solanke wore the Spurs armband. A proper captain’s moment.

Legion’s view

The league table still says no win in six, so nobody should pretend the problems have disappeared. Tottenham remain 18th with three points. The missed chances and Bentancur’s red card must be addressed.

But there was finally something solid to take from a match: intensity, chances, and a team that kept playing for one another after the worst possible swing. Roberto De Zerbi said it was the first game this season in which Spurs showed they were a team. We saw the same thing.

Now it has to become the standard, starting against Coventry City. COYS!
